I echo what everyone else has said about Al. I met him when I became a young Republican precinct captain in the 37th ward. After the 68 election he was instrumental in my appointment to the state attorney generals office under Scott. Al was a truly nice down to earth person which sometimes can be rare in politics. I am so sorry not to have been able to see him one more time before his passing. My condolences to his family.

I had the honor and pleasure of working with Al for at least 60 years, first in politics as a leader in the Cook County Republican Party and then as a judge in the Circuit Court. He was a politician in the best sense and a distinguished, ethical and knowledgable judge with the highest ethical standards. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues and many friends. My condolences and best wishes to Marilyn.

First met Judge White when I was in the SAO Real Estate/Property Tax section and had several cases in front of him. He was very knowledgeable and treated everyone with respect. During my first judicial retention Judge Funderburk roped me into working at the Chicago Marathon. For a number of years Judge White and I would work the last water station and share running stories.

My deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Judge White. I was lucky to practice before Judge White and it was always a learning experience. Judge White would end the call and remain sitting on the bench reading briefs on many days to accommodate any late-arriving attorneys. He was always available to answer any odd question -- very important when you're a young lawyer making your way through the Tax and Misc. section. Judge White could often be seen skipping the private Judge's elevator to ride with up to the 25th floor with attorneys and litigants. One of a kind. Rest in Peace.

Judge White was one of the most knowledgeable Judges I ever worked for. He was no nonsense, fair and ran his Courtroom with the highest integrity. I was his Court Clerk for many years and what I learned from him about Courtroom Procedure and Professionalism was invaluable to me throughout my career. I eventually became Assistant Chief Deputy Clerk of the Law Division. Due in part to the tutelage I received from Judge White. He was also a friend and during the summer months we would attend the Chicago Jazz Fest at Grant Park, along with one of his other Court Clerk’s Maurice Pompey. Also, his Annual Christmas Parties were legendary. Judge White will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences go out to his family and may he Rest In Peace.

Al had a keen legal mind and was a compassionate and fair in his administration of justice. I had the honor of not only working with Al, but of calling him my dear friend. We traveled together and no matter where we went, Al knew the history, the colorful back-stories, where to get the best drinks and where to go for the best parties. My wife, Eileen, and I send our deepest condolences to Marilyn and his entire family. We know how much you all treasured him. God rest his soul. He will be missed.

Dear Family,
I was judge Whites' court clerk for over 17 years in the Tax and misc section.
I have a lot of memories of him. When he would tell one of his stories, he would look over at me and say I know Debbie has heard this story a million times, and I did. But he would love to share his travels and stories with lawyers and his interns and externs that we would have in our courtroom over the years.
HIs Christmas party would be the talk of the town and a party not to be missed. I was his loyal Court Clerk and friend.

He will be greatly missed.

Dear Marilyn, Julie, Brad, Christy,

As the Director of Alumni Relations Emeritus, I offer you the sympathy and prayers of the Saint Viator/Sacred Heart of Mary High School community as you mourn the death of your husband and father. As I read the obituary for this “loving, kind, compassionate, honest, fun” man “who touched many lives,” a reading from the book of Sirach came to mind.

Let us praise an illustrious man,
faithful to his family and friends, strong in his love.
At peace in his heart and his world,
he has left us his good name, and we recount his life of praiseworthy deeds.
A generous man his good works will never be forgotten.
Among his family and friends there remains a rich inheritance born of him.
His inheritance will last forever.
His glory will not fade.
His name lives on from generation to generation.
We gather to sing his praises.
We will proclaim his wisdom and love of life all our days.

Our hearts go out to you as you move through your journey of grief unable to be comforted by the physical gathering of family and friends during these difficult times. We pray for you as you share the stories, laugh and cry, and find ways to celebrate Alexander and the love you shared.

May memories of your husband/father and the love you shared comfort you!
May the knowledge your husband/father lives on in your goodness give you peace and hope!

Take care and God bless you with the gifts you most need!
Judith

Al was very proud of his military service and maintained a great interest in supporting persons serving in the military. He devoted great efforts on CBA, ISBA, and ABA committees to study legal needs of servicemembers and make provisions for them. As a Judge he was dedicated to the legal profession and was always willing to share information and insight with new judges and younger lawyers. He leaves behind a legacy of service and will be missed. Judge Ron Spears (Ret.)

Judge Al White was my Supervising Judge in the Tax and Miscellaneous Section. His knowledge was vast and he readily shared the history of statutes and case law with anyone willing to learn. He loved the law and was a mentor to so many young attorneys, law students and judges. He was also a teacher of history who shared his own experiences and the political and legal past of our city, county, state and country. He was thoughtful of others and always remembered important dates for staff and made sure to share his celebrations and receptions in our section with anyone he encountered.
Judge White was a revered judge, respected by all who appeared and practiced in his courtroom. He was also a very nice man who loved a good discussion and conversation. The legal community has lost a titan and his family has lost a dedicated father and husband.  All my thoughts and prayers. Hon. James M. McGing

I first met him when he was my family’s Republican precinct captain in the Austin neighborhood.  Later when I was old enough to vote and in grad school I interviewed him for a paper I was writing about the changing dynamic in the Austin neighborhood. Years later when he became Regional Director for Region 5 of the U. S. Department of Labor I had frequent meetings with him in my capacity as president of Local 648 of the American Federation of Government Employees, which represented many of the employees in Region 5.  My respect for him grew dramatically during this time as he was always willing to find ways to improve the working conditions of Region 5 employees without eroding management rights.  He indeed was great man and I will always remember him fondly
